Khalid Ahmed, 10, discusses his experiences fasting for Ramadan

Khalid Ahmed, Staff Writer

My name is Khalid Ahmed, and I’m a sophomore. I’m 15 years old and in newspaper. I was born with a heart condition known as truncus arteriosus. I’ve gone through five surgeries. Four of them were open heart, and the most recent one was through catheterization. I’m really big sports fan, too! I’m a Mavs Fan For Life, a Cowboy fan, Rangers fan, Stars fan, and an FC Dallas fan! One thing that most people don’t know about me when they first meet me is that I’m a Muslim, and I’m proud to be one! Growing up, I was always teased about my religion and used that to mold who I am today. I want to prove to the world that Muslims aren’t what mainstream media portrays them to be. Another big thing about me is that I’m arguably the biggest Dragon Ball Z fan that you might ever meet! I love watching it! It taught me to never give up and to break through my limits! Also, I love to watch/read romance stories which, I admit, isn’t really what most guys my age are into, but, hey, that’s who I am, and I’m proud of it!

“It’s morphin’ time.” That one little catchphrase can bring back a whole childhood worth of memories. Now, after 10 years, they’re back. The colorful, witty teenagers with attitude are back on the big screen. That’s right, the Power Rangers have been rebooted. This beloved franchise deserved...

Mavericks: Why not to Panic

Khalid Ahmed, Staff Writer
January 26, 2017

The Dallas Mavericks are currently one of the worst teams in the Western Conference of the NBA. As a big Mavs fan, this comes to me as no surprise. After the trainwreck of an off-season, the Mavericks were doomed to fail. Sure they got Harrison Barnes, who is averaging about 20 points and 5 rebounds...

Star Wars hits the big screen with their newest addition, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The movie takes place between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Review: Doctor Strange

Khalid Ahmed, Staff Writer
November 17, 2016

Going into Doctor Strange, I was very skeptical if Marvel could pull off a proper movie adaptation. This was because of the powers of the characters in the Doctor Strange comic series. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The movie’s CGI was breathtaking and seemed so real. The locations that...

Review: JD’s Smokehouse and Southern Deli

October 10, 2016

After a month of bragging, former football coach, Mr. Jimmie Green, allowed his robotics class at Ben Barber to try his barbeque. I was really doubtful that it stood a chance against my superior taste buds, considering Coach Green compared a student’s homemade brisket to his. At first glance, it...

Review: The LEGO Batman Movie

Khalid Ahmed, Staff Writer
February 26, 2017

After watching this movie, I think it’s time for Warner Brothers and DC Comics to pull the plug on the DC Extended Universe and focus on LEGO movies instead. That’s how good this movie is. As a guy that doesn’t like DC in general, this movie allowed me to give DC a second chance. With that...

With an upcoming English dub on January 7, 2017, and four story arcs already finished, I think it’s time to review the sequel to my favorite series, Dragon Ball Super. Now, I know writing a review of this might seem a bit “nerdy,” but it may surprise you how many people in our school support the...

Thanksgiving. Just the very word brings thoughts of family, friends, dinner and turkey into one’s mind. It’s a time where we catch up with our family and watch football with people you love.
