Mason Baas

Mason Baas, Staff Writer

Hey everyone, my name is Mason and I’m excited to be joining the newspaper team this year. I’ll start by saying band is life. On top of being in Journalism, I am also the band president for this year. I play on the drumline and I’ve been in band for 6 years. I have five dogs named Cowboy, Witten, Chico, Trigger, and Cowboy. Yes, you read that right. I have two dogs named Cowboy. Weird, eh? I am also a huge sports fan, but I only support our local teams like the Stars, Cowboys, Rangers, etc. However, I have yet to jump on the soccer bandwaggon. My favorite word is tintinnabulation. I have an undying obsession with Dr. Pepper and original Pringles.

When someone goes to McDonald’s, they’ll probably order a Big Mac and not a Monster Mac, or go to Starbucks and order a Caramel Cappuccino and not a Cotton Candy Frappuccino. These would sound foreign to almost anyone who doesn’t know about the plethora of secret menus out there. Here are some...

A line of mellophones, trombones and euphoniums can be seen from the sideline. Several brass players stand in a row, holding up their marching instruments in an attempt to build muscle. This is called a “horn-holding party,” a term that wouldn’t be understood by someone outside of band. Band...

Friday night lights. Concessions. Spirit. Football. The scene has become all too familiar to me. Few people have the opportunity to stand on that football field, under the aforementioned blaring lights, and bask in the glory of hundreds of onlookers; our peers, friends and parents. There’s just something...
