New Footloose
Rating:PG-13 | Run Time:113 minutes | Year:2011
When my friend Mandy and I went to go see the new Footloose. I was wasn’t expecting the movie to be that great. I don’t find new movies worth seeing in theaters. Film makers seem to spend a lot of money and try too hard to make movies entertaining that most aren’t. Remakes can never beat the original or even come close. This was not the case with the new Footloose.
The new Footloose has a the same plot but fits in our generation even though Ren MacCormack played by Kenny Wormald dresses fairly 80’s. The music is new but has music from the original as well.
MacCormack moves to a small town to live with his aunt and uncle after his mother dies and faces some changes. The town has outlawed dancing and music, besides classical music and hymns. MacCormack loves to dance and decides to challenge the city council to hold a dance, upsetting many adults along the way.
Some differences that stood out to me were the characters. The characters in remake had more depth and I feel like you get to know them more which makes the movie more captivating. Willard had more dialogue as did Rusty making the audience feel closer to them and get to know them more. The uncle in the remake is on MacCormack’s side unlike the original giving MacCormack someone to count on.
The remake has many of the same scenes but slightly altered for the times making it relatable while keeping it’s roots. In the opening scene they kept the close up of the dancing feet, and even Ariel’s Prom dress was very similar to the original.
The remake didn’t have many major differences in my opinion and I would recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the original.
