After earning a win against 3A Roosevelt High School in their season opener and taking a 58-7 loss against 5A Lakeview Centennial at home, the Bryan Adams Cougars, from Dallas, prepare for their first away game in a Thursday night battle against the Broncos at Newsom Stadium.
The Cougars have speed and athleticism, but come short in the experience category. With the starting quarterback a junior, the Cougars have a few players new to the varsity level. The Cougars have a 48 completion percentage, three interceptions and 78 yards.
Although not the most successful in their passing game, Bryan Adams backs it up on the ground. Returning offensive starter, senior running back Mike Chalmers and junior Greg Brown-Freeney have racked up a total of close to 200 yards rushing. To back up their inexperience on the offensive side of the ball Bryan Adams defense has six returning starters including star senior linebacker Ian Compton.
Bryan Adams ended their 2011 season with a 5-6 record finishing with over 1,700 yards passing and 1,000 on the ground.
“We are a positive and confident team,” senior Jamie Heiland said. “They are fast and athletic, but we are well prepared for them.”
The Broncos kickoff against Bryan Adams on a rare Thursday start.
“Just like every game we go into, we try to be the most prepared,” senior offensive lineman Connor Johns said. “I feel that if we approach every game like it’s our last, then we’ll have a successful season.”
