The Lancaster Tigers. A force to be reckoned with. Not only in the 4A division but in the state. The Tigers knocked off John Tyler High School, 26-21, who was top ranked in the state up until two weeks ago. This win brought Lancaster up to number 24 in the state.
Now 3-0, the Tigers attempt to carry on their winning streak over the Legacy Broncos. The Broncos must be prepared and ready to take on Lancaster– and for good reason.
Lancaster has racked up over 1000 yards in rushing and passing, and not against tough teams.
With their debut game against top private school team Nolan Catholic ending 35-21. Their second game was versus Tyler John Tyler. Helping the Tigers this season is their veteran defense along with their high speed on offense. What is going to be the hardest is knocking the Tigers off from their momentum from coming up with three big wins.
Although with these strengths there come little weakness. Lancasters offense is pretty young, although a little more inexperienced, talent isn’t a quality they lack. Under the leadership of senior quarterback Demarcus Ayers, the offense has only four returning starters and their quarterback happens to not be one of them. With two touchdowns and three interceptions varsity inexperience shows. Although good, the passing game is surpassed by the successful ground game lead by Demarcus Ayers and senior running back Joseph Payden. Ayers leads the team in rushing and combined with Joseph Payden for almost 600 yards.
Lancaster ended their season 9-3 last year, and have eight defensive starters returning to have another successful season.
“I think we can definitely win against Lancaster,” Legacy senior defensive lineman Jason Jones said. “It’s all about how much we want it, and we want it bad.”
Legacy plays in Lancaster to start district play this Friday night.
“We’ve been practicing really hard, and we’re super focused,” junior tight end Corey Murray said. “Hopefully all the hard work pays off.”
