With baseball starting in a month the players prepare for the season. Last year the team went to the first round of the playoffs, but got knocked out by the L.D Bell Blue Raiders. Leaving the field after being beat out of the playoffs, the players vowed to each other not to settle for only the first round in the 2013 season.
“Walking off that field last year after getting beat in the first round really hurt,” senior Robbie Stricklin said. “We all had tears in our eyes that represented sadness, pain and the mentality of making next year better.”
With ten returning seniors, the players intend to make this the best season Bronco baseball has ever experienced, by working even harder than they did last year. Out of the seniors only a few know where they are going to college and if they are going to play ball or not.
“I’m going to A&M, and I am hanging up my spikes after this year, so I want us to go as far as God’s will will take us,” Stricklin said.
The team has a change ahead of them that every other Bronco sports team had to endure. The move down to 4-A. Instead of having some 5-A powerhouses in the same district like Mansfield, South Grand Prairie, and Cedar Hill they will be facing teams like Summit, Seguin and Lake Ridge.“I’m looking forward about the move down to 4-A,” Stricklin said. “I will miss facing off against our rivals, SGP and Mansfield, but we’ll definitely persevere from this drop in districts, and give our fans something to cheer about.”
