With the first district game on Jan. 9, the varsity men’s soccer team prepares to have a winning season. With seven returning seniors, they have one mission: make it to state. Last year the team ended the season one game shy from going to the postseason.
“I think we are going to do very well because we have really good chemistry and we play well together,” senior Garrett Albaugh said.
With Coach Stephens taking over Coach Cottrell’s job, the players still feel very confident about the way the season will go. Also, dropping from 5-A to 4-A builds up the team’s confidence when it comes to the level of difficulty. Instead of having to go up against Mansfield and other 5-A power houses, they will have to face the 4-A competition, which can be a different skill level.
“Coach Stephens is a really good coach,” Albaugh said. “He is also very funny and keeps us motivated.”
