Sophomore Tiffany Miller and senior Austin Glavin leave every day during ninth period to go to the golf course and practice putting and driving golf balls around the green.
Miller started to play golf in seventh grade because her dad suggested it.
“I like playing golf because it keeps my mind clear,” Miller said.
Miller not only enjoys golfing, but also has made some friends on the team. The girls’ team consists of only five girls, but they make sure to have team bonding time. The last time they had a team bonding night the girls went to eat at Pluckers Wing Bar then saw the movie Mama.
“We had a lot of fun,” Miller said. “I think it brought us all closer together.”
Miller and the team practice almost every day for the upcoming tournaments at Horseshoe Bay and the State Preview at Onion Creek. Her first time going to a tournament was last year at Horseshoe Bay near Austin.
“My first tournament was different because it was a lot bigger than what I was used to,” Miller said. “It made me really nervous.”
Some members of the golf team have played for four years, and others for not as long. Senior Austin Glavin has only been playing for one year.
“I got burned out with baseball and felt like I needed to go down a different road in my life,” Glavin said. “I like golf because its fun to play and it takes your mind off of everything else. It takes hard work, but everyone has fun while working hard.”
