Walking up to the batter box, junior Karson Houston is mentally preparing to hit. As he steps in the box, the pitcher starts his motion to throw the ball to the catcher. Within seconds the ball is heading the opposite way toward left field. The ball then fell in hard behind the left fielder and short hopped the wall giving Houston a double.
With seven juniors and 10 seniors on the team, players worked to form a bond stronger than any of the other past teams. With four wins and six losses this 2013 season, they worked to get their record back to positive.
“We are doing well as a team,” Houston said. “We are holding up good as a team and we have each other’s back.”
Tues. March 5, the Broncos played the Lancaster Tigers for their first district game of the season, and came out with a win overpowering them with a score of 23-0. Matt Dickey threw a three inning no hitter with seven strikeouts and one hit batsman. With the first district game out of the way the team was continually working on forming a strong bond with each other.
“It was nice to go out there Tuesday night and beat Lancaster,” Houston said. “We have our first team dinner and that is when all the team bonding and coming together seems to start.”
Each Thursday night, a couple of player’s families team up and have the team dinner at one of their houses and cook dinner for the players. This year the team tried to come together as a whole more than any of the past year’s teams.
“Every year the team tries to form a strong bond with each other, because the stronger the bond between the players the better they perform as a team,” Houston said.
