Varsity football traveled 64 miles for their home opener to defeat McKinney Lions, taking the win at 38-28. Nerves played a role in the Bronco’s first home game. By shaking off the stress, the Broncos overcame the challenge and won against Kennedale. Preparing for these kinds of games did not come with ease, though. Lots of hard work came in to play.
“The experience of the players is different this year,” senior Kijana Amous said. “This year’s team has a lot of experience under its belt.”
Running back Amous carries his team through his outstanding stats; he has 87 rushes for 529 yards, 11 touchdowns in three games, as well as 62 yards receiving and a touchdown. Stats like these build up and help the Bronco’s prepare mentally for upcoming games. The Bronco’s next big roadblock, Ennis, stands undefeated.
“I’m looking forward to [playing] Ennis in four weeks,” Amous said. “They are undefeated.”
Legacy varsity football team has achieved a 4-0 record and moved up to rank 160 in the state. Legacy has 2,118 total yards this season. The 4-0 record is a milestone in Legacy’s history. The season always starts slow, but this year’s hard work paved the way to success for the team.
“My favorite part of the season is the hard work at the beginning of the season,” Amous said. “I like working hard.”
Legacy moves into the season confidently with the current win streak. Coach Chris Melson has challenged his players to work through the worst.
“This year, we have great kids with great attitudes and outstanding work ethics,” Coach Chris Melson said. “The goal this year is the same as every year, state championship.”
