Tongue trilling, freshman Austin Kiefer warms up his voice and gets ready to sing. Kiefer’s new single “Wonder” released on iTunes Nov. 22, 2013. His new song proves worthy by his fans who are crazy about his love story breakup song, with “Wonder” being his debut on iTunes, and his first chance at a singing career.
“Singing for me is freeing,” Kiefer said. “[Singing’s] been there through the stress of school and my bad breakups that inspire my songs.”
Kiefer went through a breakup in 2012 which inspired his song “Wonder.” He started singing at the age of four and still continues to do so in choir. Another recent project of his includes a role in “Urinetown”, Legacy’s Theatre winter show. Kiefer plans to use acting as a fallback in case singing doesn’t work out.
“I joined choir because I loved singing,” Kiefer said. “It taught me how sing better and allowed me to grow as an artist.”
Kiefer took his first school choir class in seventh grade at Linda Jobe Middle School. He belongs to the men’s ensemble and the show choir at Legacy. With this his first year, he plans on continuing in the program until he graduates.
“Choir has taught me to be confident about my abilities and to not shy away from people,” Kiefer said. “My parents and friends have alway been supportive of my singing.”
While in choir, he posts covers of songs that he sung on YouTube. With the positive comments his viewers would leave and the support of his parents, Kiefer continued to post and make music until he independently put out his single ‘Wonder.”
“I would want to be a solo artist when I graduate high school,” Kiefer said. “Elvis Presley is my inspiration, because he started small with his singing and then his music got big, which is what I want to happen.”
Kiefer plans on going on X-Factor and auditioning in hopes of getting signed to a record label and launching his career in the music industry.
“I think if I never started singing I would be a different person,” Kiefer said. “Singing has inspired me, and I hope to inspire people with my singing.”
