Since the win at the opening game at Legacy against Irving, the Bronco basketball team continues to stay strong with a steady record of 3-4.
In the season so far, the defensive line up held all teams to an average of 45 points. With six foot, five inch center senior Chad Pursley defending the paint, the Broncos believe he is one of the reasons why they’re so stout in the paint.
“Our defense is doing well this season,” Chad Pursley said. “Our defense and playing together are our strong points.”
By ironing out small flaws in offense and defense, the Broncos look forward to taking out strong rivals like Summit (8-4) and Lakeridge (8-0). Both teams have a total win record of 16 and a combined loss record of four. Head basketball coach Marchie Murdock believes this season’s team has unbeatable work ethics.
“I think if we keeping working together, we have a good chance at [beating] our rivals,” Coach Marchie Murdock said.
As the best defensive team in the state last year, the Broncos only allowed 38 points average a game to score. This year, the team will try and contribute to getting the same or better statistic. In order to play better, the Broncos continue to strengthen defense and work on offense.
“We had a great year last year,” coach Murdock said. “We’re gonna try to get in and battle these good teams this year.”
On Dec. 17, then Broncos played their first district game against Lancaster at home. The team played a strong game, but came out with a loss. The Broncos split up points equally for a total effort achieving 38 points against Lancaster 46 points.
“I think our spirit is good,” Pursley said. “I see it growing throughout the year.”
