Valentine’s Day Toss-up

Valentines Day Toss-up

Valentine’s Day, the day girls take for granted, that is, if they are in a relationship. Girls treat Valentine’s Day like a second Christmas, longing for oversized teddy bears, chocolate candies and bundles of roses. Girls can even go overboard asking for new Nike tennis shoes or James Avery jewelry.

As a single, Valentine’s Day can either be the worst day ever or, if you enjoy being single, it can be the best day of your carefree life. Not having to worry about a significant other to spoil and not being tied to another individual is marvelous. When you are single, you can go home and drown yourself in candy and lay around watching romantic chick flicks on Valentine’s Day.

The most depressing thing about Valentine’s Day is the delivering of valograms. You sit in class watching students deliver the valograms and anxiously wait for someone to say your name, knowing it’s not going to happen. Name after name, the deliverers hand out valograms. The pile gets smaller and smaller and the epic let down is soon to come, you and maybe two other people didn’t receive one.

In contrast to the students who get nothing, you have the popular kids who receive one of everything. Their hands are so full of valograms that they are hanging out of their backpacks and they need help just to carry them all. Walking to class is the worst because in the hallways it’s attack of the balloons. Everywhere you look you see a balloon or a small stuffed bear; you might even see the small Valentine’s Day cards everyone handed out as elementary students.

Not everyone wants the same thing though, some people want the whole second Christmas ordeal, but others might just want pizza. I mean sure, getting spoiled and all can be nice, but when it really comes down to it, it’s the thought that counts.
