The buzzer sounds as the girls’ basketball team goes into overtime. The Legacy stands are filled with family and friends anxiously hoping for a win. Four minutes are set on the clock the referee throws the ball up, Legacy gains possession. Junior Bethany Ross gets the ball and goes for the layup, she scores. The teams go back and forth finally, with a minute left, Legacy controls the ball and stalls. Five seconds pass; the crowd goes wild.
On December 9 Legacy played their first district home game against the Lake Ridge Eagles with a final score of 67-59. Ever since the season started the girls have looked forward to this game. The girls were ready to win.
The girls run out of the locker room and slap the sign on the wall outside the locker room door that says “You only have 32 minutes to play and then you’re done.” They come onto the court looking fierce with their mind on one thing; winning.
In the first quarter of the game, the girls came out strong pushing up and down the court. They scored 16 points and were tied with the Eagles. The whole quarter it was neck and neck Second quarter begins and we get ahead then Lake Ridge dribbles down the court and makes the shot, Legacy and Lake Ridge once again tied at 19.
The clock runs down and the sound of the buzzer takes over the gym. It is now halftime. The teams hustle to the locker rooms to cool down and discuss the game plan for the second half. Coach Michelle Morris, new head coach to the girls’ basketball team this year, and the rest of the coaching staff enter the locker room, Coach Morris with a grin on her face tells the girls they have got this game. The girls are ready to get back on the court.
Still tied, Legacy takes the court with no hesitation, both teams anticipating for the the third quarter to begin. With three minutes left on the clock Legacy takes the lead.
During the fourth quarter Legacy has the lead at 33-30. Lake Ridge runs down the court and makes the shot. Legacy grabs and passes the ball to one another as they approach the basket to shoot a layup. The Eagles have the ball with a minute now left on the clock and the make the shot. The buzzer sounds and the Legacy Broncos and Lake Ridge Eagles go into overtime.
All around the gym the crowd is on their feet shouting and cheering for their team to take the win. Four minutes on the clock, the referee throws the ball up and Legacy gains possession. Grace Daniels dribbles and makes the shot Legacy now has the lead. The girls work together to pull this win. With 30 seconds on the clock they run down the time. The buzzer goes off the Legacy Broncos have just won their first district home game of the season.
