Junior Jasmine Dalrymple practices a dance in the locker room along with the rest of the team as she waits for them to call her name. She takes a nervous breath before running through the counts again for her tryout for the pep rally dance. A voice calls her and she steps into the dance room where the officers and coach are waiting to judge her tryout.
“A majority of times I feel nervous for the tryout dances depending on how well I know them,” Dalrymple said. “I don’t know if I’ll make it or not and it freaks me out.”
Member on the JV drill team, Dalrymple danced for six years. She first heard about the drill team tryouts in middle school but didn’t audition until her junior year.
“I wasn’t really sure what it was at first, but once I found out, I knew I wanted to do it because I love to dance,” Dalrymple said.
Dalrymple’s favorite things about drill team are the outfits she gets to wear and all the dances they perform. She has more performances in drill team than she does in her dance class.
“I like the dances because they are energetic and fast-paced.” Dalrymple said. “It’s a lot of fun.”
Dalyrimple looks forward for the rest of football season and the pep rallies. She hopes to stay on drill team and continue to do it again next year.
“I like drill team.” Dalrymple said. “I like performing and dancing and I wanted to get more involved with the school.”
