Concentrating hard, senior Dawn Espenscheid paints the final touches on her flower sculpture for her ceramics class. She fixes up any errors and rough patches that she sees on her masterpiece.
Espenshield takes a total of five art classes.
“My life revolves around art,” Espenscheid said.
Espenscield participates in art related clubs such as anime and art clubs, as well as taking classes.
“I am not a sporty person,” Espenscheid said. [I can’t do] anything that makes my heart go too fast. I had the hole [in my heart] as a baby and it closed up, but it came back and it came along with other conditions. My beat is irregular and it hurts some. So I can’t do any sports.”
Espenscheid’s god sister got her into art by showing her how to draw. Espenscheid started by drawing what she drew.
“The most memorable part of my highschool career has got to be whenever last year for april fools, we flipped Ms. Louviere’s tables upside down and stuck a whole bunch of chairs behind her desk,” Espenscheid said. “She was surprised and just laughed about it.”
Espenscheid sees the Spanish Cubist painter, Pablo Picasso as her favorite artist.
“I love his style and how he took normal things and bodies to rearrange them to make it look amazing,” Espenscheid said.
Kansas City Art Institute and College of Creative Studies, two art colleges, have high rankings in their home state on the best art colleges in the Missouri and Michigan list. Espenscheid wants to get into one of these two colleges after her high school career.
“Both schools have a really good art program,” Espenscheid said. “I want to tell incoming seniors to not slack off even though it’s senior year.”
