Ten years ago, people played video games on a big-boxed gaming consoles that displayed 2D pixel graphics. We used plug-in controllers and games systems required a cartridge or CD to play the games. Those were fun and they seemed to be at the top of the line when we played them. But new advancements in technology in the last decade drastically changed the way the public played video games. Inventions, like touch screen phones, tablets and other new forms of technology released right after one another. The way we play video-games and network our lives now will continue to evolve greatly as the years progress.
These days, 3D, or three-dimensional games, allow for a more realistic video game experience. Wireless and rechargeable controllers use touch screen based mechanics (such as the “Wii-U”) and use sensors to record motion, like the “Xbox 360 Kinect”. Some technology even allows for vocal interaction. New methods of playing games can make the player feel like they exist in the game, not just playing it. I have a Xbox Kinect and the fact that I don’t need to buy batteries and plug-in controllers makes the game experiences much more virtual.
Also, getting your favorite or most wanted video games doesn’t require visiting a local GameStop. You will save gas, time and make your console worth the hundreds of dollars you paid for it, because you can buy online memberships like Xbox Live that allow you to purchase games, demos, movies, shows and use the internet right on your TV. That now gives us the ability to search the web and get entertainment with console apps like Internet Explorer, Netflix, YouTube, Pandora, ESPN, NBA Gametime, Hulu Plus and more. We can do and search for almost anything on game consoles because of their beneficial range of compatibility.
Who knows what technology’s future may hold since the constant progress will continue to change our lives.
In the next decade or so, we may advance in technology that gaming consoles may not even exist. We could wear glasses that display a large screen on the wall and you could play your favorite games whenever and wherever you want. This could make those long airplane rides, office sittings and other boring moments of your life more entertaining. These scenarios continue endlessly when coming up with new inventions and ideas of technology, because if you can think it, it can really happen. We stand just at the roots of the technology tree, so know that there remains more to technology than what you possess now.
