Focus and dedication finally paid off for the Legacy girls’ varsity soccer team this season as they finished second in their district. The team clinched their playoff spot by defeating Red Oak, putting them where they wanted to be in the district standings. Senior Stevie Riddle feels that finishing second in district is one of the teams biggest accomplishments this season.
“We really clicked as a team and we worked very hard from the start of off season all the way up to now,” Riddle said. “We are working really hard now to get very far in playoffs and make it past regionals.”
Being a senior in playoffs, Riddle has high expectations for the outcome of their journey to state. Given that the farthest any Legacy soccer team has finished in playoffs was the second round, Riddle plans on making it past regionals.
“Our expectations are to at least make it past regionals and hopefully go to state,” Riddle said. “We want to make it farther than all MISD schools did make it in playoffs.”
Along with the rest of the team, sophomore Peyton McGee feels confident going into playoffs. Working on tactical drills and focusing on different aspects of the game during practices makes McGee feel good about their future in the playoffs.
“I expect to do well,” McGee said. “I expect to win because I think that we, as a team, work well together and I think that we had a hard district so we will be prepared for a lot.”
The team kicks off playoffs against Dallas Samuell in Duncanville on Thursday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m.
“I feel very pumped and everything and our team as a whole is very excited for this game and our mind set is on going far,” Riddle said.
