The girls’ soccer team had already etched their name in the Legacy history books by advancing to the regional tournament. Now they look to extend their playoff run at a fourth round playoff game at Carrollton’s Standridge Stadium.
The team plays Wylie East High School on April 10 at 10 a.m. Dezirae Rodriguez, 9, hopes to push herself to new limits at the game.
“My expectation is to go out and play as hard as I can and play like it’s my last game,” Rodriguez said. “I want to be able to say at the end of the game that we gave everything on the field.”
Coming off of two consecutive games that ended in penalty shootouts, the team hopes to end the game in regular time. Assistant Coach Rachel Ryan remains confident even if the game goes to penalty kicks.
“It would definitely help the nerves,” Coach Ryan said. “If that’s the way we have to win, I’d be fine with it.”
The game will be live streamed via TheRiderOnline’s new Twitter account, @LegacyLiveNow. Since the game will occur during school, many students will be watching the game at Legacy. Coach Ryan thinks the team can feel their peers’ presence even though they can’t be in the stands.
“The girls know they are watching,” Coach Ryan said. “I think they can feel it even if they don’t hear it.”
