After enjoying half of her summer soaking it up in the sun, senior Kennedy Wynn prepares to spend her entire month of August training for football in the upcoming school year. She attends two-a-days, which are two different workouts during the day. One takes place in the morning and the other in the afternoon. She gives football players water and watches out for heat exhaustion within the players and herself.
“It’s hard when you have a bunch of consecutive days that are over 100 degrees and people get sick, but that makes our job even more important,” Wynn said.
Wynn’s training for football starts in August and continues until the end of football season. During two-a-days, teams are split up so that trainers and players aren’t working so much that they get over exhausted. Wynn looks forward to getting up every morning and spending day after day watching out for the players.
“I live for training. It’s what I look forward to every day, so getting to do it during the summer is awesome for me.” Wynn said. “The trainers and team get to enjoy what they’ve been preparing for when football seasons start and they begin to play the game on the field.”
Every day during football season, their practice takes place. Trainers take care of their assigned players during practices. Kennedy wraps ankles before every game.
“The atmosphere at football is incredible,” Wynn said. “The feeling at games with the competitiveness and the fans is the best thing in the world.”
Not only does Wynn want to participate in training for all of high school, but she also aspires to continue doing so in college. She wishes to be a trainer for a professional team such as the Dallas Cowboys or Texas Rangers.
“Training helps build relationships and provides something for people to enjoy all year long,” Wynn said.
