With a new season approaching, senior Lisa Hart gets back into the swing of things with the help of fall ball. The varsity softball team participates in the fall ball games that are held on Wednesday nights at McKnight Park.
Fall ball helps the team get to know each other better, as well as helping them become familiar with different positions on the field. With this being the second year participating in fall ball, the players enjoy the time they get to spend together with their future team.
“It’s good to see what we have this year,” Hart said. “I get to interact with all the other girls.”
Returning sophomore Camryn Aguilar plays second base for the Broncos. fall ball allows her to focus on the skills she needs in order to better herself at her given position.
“We take turns to see what positions people can play,” Aguilar said. “I play [fall ball] to get myself ready for the upcoming season.”
Head coach, Amie Prater, is not allowed to coach her own team during the fall ball season because of the UIL rule. As a result, the girls are coached by fathers from the team.
“It allows for the development of leadership. I’m not out there coaching, so they girls have to figure out how they are going to handle various situations,” Coach Prater said. “We get to see who’s going to step up and get everyone back on track and who’s going to be the one who gets them motivated.”
With fall ball allowing the team to get the opportunity to work together before the season starts it helps them get used to the pressure that is put on the field. Not only do they want to win but they have to learn and excel from the experience they achieve from fall ball.
“We all know it’s a whole different ball game when you put that Legacy uniform on,” Coach Prater said. “There is more pressure, especially in a strong district like ours, so this is a nice stepping stone to get us off on the right foot.”
Softball tryouts will begin the third week of January.
