It might seem a little too early to think about the cold weather, but a harsh winter has been in the forecast for Texas this year. Instead of getting caught in the cold, follow these tips to help make the upcoming weather more enjoyable.
Drive Safely
It’s best to avoid driving in icy conditions, but if you absolutely have to get on the roads you should know how to stay safe. Drive slowly and don’t accelerate too quickly. Ice can be hidden and you never know when you might try to accelerate without any traction. It might sound strange, but keep cat litter in your car. It can help create traction on patches of ice.
Keep A Blanket In The Car
If your car gets stuck in snow while you’re out in the cold, you’ll need something to help you stay warm. Keep a blanket in your car and wrap it around you while you wait for help. Avoid getting out of your car so that you can conserve heat until help arrives. The blanket will also come in handy if your heater chooses to stop working.
Update Your Wardrobe
Tank tops, flip flops and shorts won’t be much help in protecting you from the crisp winter air. Make sure you invest in warm clothing to keep from being uncomfortably cold when you brave the winter weather. Head for some comfy sweatshirts, long pants and warm jackets.
Turn Your Fan On
Believe it or not, turning your fan on can help keep you warm. Warm air rises, and having something circulating this air and pushing it back down to you will help you keep from getting cold. Most ceiling fans have a switch on them to change the direction of airflow from blowing toward the ceiling to down toward you. Make sure to flip the switch and enjoy the waves of warm air.
