Legacy Bronco defender, Joshua Richey, is one of few freshman on the soccer team. However, he has a back injury that restricts his mobility and accuracy. In Richey’s mind, this is just a challenge that he has to overcome.
Q: What position do you play?
A: I play defender, which is the protector of the goalie anytime the ball gets past the forward on the last line of defense. It’s not easy because you get pummeled a lot.
Q: What is it like to play with a back injury?
A: Very hard because I can’t move as much as others and when I go to kick the ball, the brace makes my shot off. The other players still respect me though.
Q: How do you think you will do when the season starts?
A: I hope that I’ll do well and I’m practicing really hard for this season.
Q: What is it like to be on the soccer team?
A: It’s almost like having a new family that always has your back even when you do something wrong. However, we play mainly to have fun. Also there’s never a time to be disappointed, you just get up and keep trying.
Q: What is your favorite thing about being on the team?
A: I like being able to meet new people and learn from them. Because most of my teammates are older than me, they know the systems better.
