Senior Montana Skidmore steps onto the paintball field as the buzzers blows and she sprints to her position to play. Skidmore knows these hours of practice will pay off as she heads to her first professional paintball tournament.
“My favorite thing about paintball is the adrenaline rush,” Skidmore said.
Skidmore has played paintball since her freshman year when she broke her foot playing soccer. She plays with her team every weekend at Mansfield Paintball and Fun on the Run in Fort Worth, practicing 6-10 hours every weekend when she isn’t working.
“I have gotten close with my team because it’s definitely a team sport,” Skidmore said. “Without one person doing their job, the team will fail. You have to pull your own weight and use teamwork.”
Skidmore remains the only girl on her paintball team. She loves what she does and plans on pursuing it in the future by playing at Tarleton State University for college.
“I do wish more people played paintball my age, because it would be even more competition,“ Skidmore said. “Sometimes the guys will doubt my capability until they play against me, then they realize I’m actually real competition against them.”
