Atari, art and attractions fill up April’s calendar. To see what adventures you could participate in this month, take a look at this list and then make some plans.
Deep Ellum Arts Festival
Since 1995, this art festival has drawn attention from those around the metroplex and even internationally for its wide variety of amazing displays. Hundreds of artists and musicians will appear at the festival this year from April 1 to April 3. If you appreciate art, music and food, visit Deep Ellum, admission to the event costs nothing.
National Video Game Museum
After multiple delays, Frisco’s Video Game Museum will finally have its grand opening on April 2. The new museum will feature complete game libraries for consoles such as Sega and Atari, rare console prototypes, an ‘80s-themed arcade and more. Tickets cost $12 for anyone above 11, $10 for senior citizens, children under ten years old, educators and veterans.
Scarborough Fair
The Renaissance Festival will open on April 9 and go until May 30 this year. The fair provides activities for all types of people, from the petting zoo to the Mythical Creatures Museum, as well as “food fit for a king”. For an immersive experience including knights, fire jugglers, turtle races and more, buy tickets and take a trip to the past.
Fort Worth Zoo Run
The 19th annual Zoo Run will occur on April 2. A Timed 5K, 5K Fun Run and 1K Fun Run will be held, top three finishers in each age group will win awards, as well as certain runners with best overall times or even best costume, a contest that has just been added this year. Registration costs $30 and all proceeds will go to the Zoo’s conservation and education efforts.
Dog Bowl
Fair Park will host its annual Dog Bowl on April 3, transforming the Cotton Bowl Stadium into a dog park open to the public. The event will host contests as well as feature live entertainment, vendors and local dog rescues where attendees can adopt dogs in need of a loving home. Admission does not cost anything, although parking at Fair Park costs $5.
Bill Nye
UNT Distinguished Lecture Series will present Bill Nye at the UNT Coliseum on April 6. Most recognized for his informational yet entertaining show, Bill Nye the Science Guy, this scientist hopes to create a more scientifically-literate society and bring more attention to the importance of science. Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased in advance.
Frisco StrEATS
This “Gourmet Food Truck Festival” features 21 different vendors, including Spin Sushi, Little Greek Food Truck, Coolhaus and more. For an amazing variety of interesting and tasty food, visit the food trucks on April 9.
