Sophomore Jaycee Cook has recently signed to play at the highest collegiate level, Division One, for her pitching and playing on the field.
What school did you commit to?
“I committed to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).”
Can you explain the committing process?
“For softball, basically, you play on the most competitive select team you can, go to college camps, showcase tournaments and start contacting coaches through emails and then eventually phone calls.”
Did you expect it to happen so early?
“Yes. In softball, the recruiting window for most Division One schools is from 8th grade to sophomore year.”
Have you received any other offers?
“Yes. I’ve received many other offers, but when I was at UAB I knew it was the perfect fit for me.”
What is your mentality for the rest of high school?
“The hard work has just started for me. Whether I play with my high school team or my select team, I intend to continue to work hard and grow as a player and a student. I’m prepared to compete as a college athlete and be able to be successful in the classroom as soon as I get there.”
