The Cleburne kicker walks backward and counts his steps. He turns around, checks to make sure his team is ready and sprints toward the ball. It flies into the air and falls right through senior Bryan Freeman’s arms. Cleburne recovers the kick to make a touchdown later in the quarter. Although the Broncos had a rough start, they came back and defeated Cleburne 56-21.
The Broncos first clinched a playoff spot after their first time win against Summit High School. Doubted by many, Legacy has not only made playoffs but are bi-district champs and will face Spruce in round two of playoffs. Senior Keaton Dennis shares his experience of being on this team.
“All of the work we did in the summer, two-a-days, waking up early, it’s all coming into play,” Dennis said. “I think we can make it to state and win.”
The Broncos are on a six-game winning streak. They totaled 524 yards in their last game and have scored 464 points this season. The Broncos haven’t seen a playoff game since 2013 where they made it to the third round and fell short to Highland Park.
“I really didn’t care that people doubted us,” Dennis said. “I know what my team can do.”
The Broncos will face Spruce High School Friday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Newsom Stadium. Spruce currently has an 8-3 W-L record, a one-game winning streak, compared to Legacy with a six-game winning streak and hold a 4-2 district record.
