After their 6-5 scrimmage win on Feb. 7 against Aledo High School, a top-ranked baseball program in the state, the Broncos baseball team is off to a very positive start to the season.
“The win helped the team come together as one, and it helped get us on track to win more,” sophomore Clayton Phillips said. “The team all together showed fight, and we had a lot of energy the whole game.”
Going 1-2 with a base hit to center field, Phillips had a solid game against a really tough opponent. Taking the scrimmage seriously seemed to help him do better throughout the game.
“The team didn’t treat the scrimmage like it was our first game of the year,” Phillips said. “We acted like we were playing a playoff game, and it was the elimination round.”
The team showed that they had the fight and energy needed to win throughout the game.
“The reason we won is because all offseason everybody was putting in work to get better,” Phillips said. “We were down at the beginning of the game, but we showed that we had the willpower to play as a team and never give up.”
