The boys’ and girls’ track teams competed at the Regional Track Meet in Lubbock over the weekend. The boys’ team won the Regional Meet, and qualified for the State Meet in six events. Senior Ife Adeyi placed first in the 100m and the 200m, senior Tru Edwards placed first in the 110H, junior Brayden Hodgest placed first in the Shot Put, senior Cedric Williams placed second in the 400m and senior Monta Davis placed third in the High Jump.
The girls’ team also finished well. Junior Rachel Darden won the Triple Jump and the Long Jump, freshman Christine Mallard placed second in the 100m and Alika Crawford placed second in the 200m. The girls’ 4 x 200m Relay placed second. Both teams will compete at the State Meet in Austin on May 10-11.
Two days after track results came out, the softball team advanced to Area Playoff round. The softball team will play Little Elm High School and the baseball team will play in the Bi-District round against FW Southwest High School. They will play games one and two on May 2-3 at Grand Prairie High School at 5 p.m. And game three if necessary, on May 4.
Also, editors of The Rider Online and The Arena attended a journalism convention in Anaheim from April 25-27. They returned with two awards: Yearbook Pacemaker Award, Online Pacemaker Award. They also won a Gold and Silver Crown award earlier in the year.
This same weekend, Mansfield Legacy Key Club attended the 70th Annual Texas-Oklahoma Key Club District Convention. The club ranked 12th out of 50 Key Clubs in the Texas-Oklahoma Key Club District.
