With the second game of the third round of playoffs being Friday, May 20, the varsity baseball team prepares to compete against Birdville High School. They finished the season with an overall record of 22-5 and a district record of 13-1.
Head coach Christopher McMullen is optimistic about the playoffs and ready to work for a deeper playoff run.
“It always feels great to make the playoffs. While it isn’t the end goal, it is something that you can’t take for granted,” McMullen said. “The games are always exciting and Legacy brings a good crowd which I know our players appreciate.”
After not making it past the third round in last year’s playoffs, the Broncos have high expectations and are hungry for a state championship.
“Seeing our players perform at a high level and seeing them make the big play, the big pitch, or get the big hit. Knowing how hard they have worked, there isn’t a better feeling than when they make a play come playoff time,” McMullen said.
McMullen wants to be in the moment and recognize the hard work his players have put in through the year.
“One day at a time! Be present. Worry about today. Will you continue to bring a high level of focus and work at practice? It’s been a long season, bodies are tired,” McMullen said. “The mental makeup of players gets revealed this time of the year. Those have been the things we have harped on and credit to our players because they have done a tremendous job up to this point.”
