A spin-off of the 1990 sitcom, Full House, “Fuller House” revolves around the lives of three adult best friends: DJ, Stephanie and Kimmy and their families. At the show’s beginning, D.J., played by Candace Cameron Bure, recently widowed, works as a veterinarian while raising her three boys. To help her out, Kimmy, her husband, her teenage daughter and Stephanie move in with DJ and the boys, making the house even fuller.
“Fuller House” is one of the best shows on Netflix because it not only brings back one of the greatest family shows, “Full House”, but can relate to any age group. Children and teenagers can learn from the kids of DJ, Stephanie and Kimmy, while adults can relate to them directly. “Fuller House” is also a funny comedy with many different types of humor across the whole family.
“The Flash” contains nine seasons following the life of Barry Allen, portrayed by Grant Gustin, who wakes up with super-human speed after getting struck by lightning. Barry embraces his powers by learning to fight crime throughout Central City. He goes through the life of “The Flash” alongside the help of his trusted friends at S.T.A.R. labs, Caitlin Snow and Cisco Ramon, played by Danielle Panabaker and Carlos Valdes.
“The Flash” is one of the best Netflix shows because it appeals to many different audiences. While the adventure and crime-fighting side of “The Flash” attracts many D.C. and Marvel fans, those who enjoy more of the drama and romance can also find interest in The Flash.
“Friday Night Lights”, with five seasons, is a drama that follows the lives of the Dillon Panthers football team. Head coach, Eric Taylor, played by Kyle Chandler, works to bring the team back to their full potential after losing their star player, Jason Street, played by Scott Porter, to a spinal injury in the first game of the season.
“Friday Night Lights” is one of the best Netflix shows because even for a person who doesn’t know much about football, the show excels at displaying the story and emotions of all the characters involved. You can connect with each character, even if you may not relate to their direct situation.
“Young Sheldon”, a spin-off of the 2007 sitcom, Big Bang Theory, goes back in time to explain the childhood of scientist Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parsons. Sheldon, a child genius, started high school at age 9 and graduated college by age 14. “Young Sheldon” also shows the life of Sheldon’s family with his sister, Missy, played by Reagan Revord, and his brother, Georgie, played by Montana Jordan.
I am a person who likes background information or asks the “why is this happening” questions, so Young Sheldon gives that background to the sitcom, “Big Bang Theory”. It not only connects to “Big Bang Theory” but creates its own drama series around his whole family.
“Atypical” follows the life of Sam, played by Keir Gilchrist, an 18-year-old with autism. Sam decides he must find a girlfriend, which puts him and his family through many challenges. Sam begins his independence from his parents at the end of season one, when he decides to move in with his best friend, Zahid, played by Nik Dodani.
“Atypical” is one of the best Netflix shows because not only do the writers do an excellent job telling the story, but the show appeals to every emotion of each character. There are moments when every character makes you sad, happy, angry and some all at the same time.
“Gilmore Girls” follows the life of Lorelai Gilmore, played by Lauren Graham, as she tries to chase her dreams of owning an inn while navigating young motherhood. The show also follows her daughter, Rory Gilmore, played by Alexis Bledel, as she goes through high school and college, working to become a journalist. When Lorelai learns the cost of Rory’s new private school she must begin to rekindle the relationship she once had with her parents, played by Edward Herrmann and Kelly Bishop.
“Gilmore Girls” is one of the best Netflix shows because it tells the story of each stage of life of Rory and Lorelai, so there is never a moment you can’t connect to or feel with. “Gilmore Girls” also teaches the importance of relationships and how they affect you through Rory, Lorelai and their relationships with the ones around them.
With nine seasons, “Suits” follows the life of Mike Ross, played by Patrick Adams, who fakes his way into being a lawyer, without going to law school. He works with Harvey Specter, played by Gabriel Macht, at his law firm and struggles not to get caught. While navigating his work life, Mike walks through his romantic life with Rachel Zane, played by Meghan Markle.
“Suits” is one of the best Netflix shows because you can feel the emotion and intentionality of every actor in playing their role. Personally, I love “Suits” because it’s unpredictable. You never know what the next episode will be or what the characters will say next.
