On Dec. 11, 2024, drill team will travel to Legacy feeder elementary schools to perform their holiday dance routine. Elementary students look upon what could potentially be them one day as the drill team performs. Varsity drill team director Alexandria Thomas hopes for a bonding experience for her team and looks forward to spreading Christmas cheer to elementary school students.
“It’s kind of a recruitment tool but also to spread Christmas,” Ms. Thomas said. “This is just a fun day for them to perform to the kids who look up to them and think they’re amazing, and we even have some spurs come through our program that remember the tour from when they were in elementary school.”
Ms. Thomas believes this tour will serve as a great experience for the team and take some stress off the dancers.
“I love this tour, it’s a good opportunity for the team to bond,” Ms. Thomas said. “It’s kind of low pressure, low stress and a time for them to just be with each other without pressure to be their best.”
The drill team will leave school on a team bus at 8 a.m. and the tour’s final performance is at 2:15 p.m. Sophomore Katelyn Coffman thinks it’s a good opportunity to take a small break from school and get closer with her peers.
“I’m excited we get to skip school,” Coffman said. “I think it’s good for us to be able to enjoy being around each other and grow closer together.”
While the drill team does see each other every day during school hours, Ms. Thomas says believes having an outside-of-school connection helps grow the team bond even stronger.
“We do see each other quite often, but spending all day together when I don’t have to teach a class and they don’t have to go to class, it’s really fun for us to just be together and grow as a team,” Ms. Thomas said.
