Mrs. Bonneau, the head of the English department and an English teacher herself, accepted a promotion from Mansfield ISD to become Legacy’s Data Specialist and will no longer teach, leaving students wondering what will happen with her AP English III and regular English IV classes. She will replace Mrs. McGuinness that has left the position after being promoted to the district’s Ed Tech.
“Leaving the classroom in the middle of the year is really hard,” Mrs. Bonneau said. “I will miss the interaction of young students. It would have been easy to accept the position if it had been before the school year started.”
Mrs. Bonneau attends college to get an administrative degree, and she considers this a step in that direction.
“The position itself isn’t exactly administrative, but it’s more administrative than before,” Mrs. Bonneau said.
In her new position, she will help with EOC and make-up TAKS testing, as well as organizing and compiling data for teachers to see what students need to work on for standardized testing. This includes coordinating with teachers for tutoring.
While she loves teaching, Mrs. Bonneau said that she will not miss the grading or the general behind-the-scenes part of her job.
“The grading can take hours for my subject,” Mrs. Bonneau said. “It would drive me bananas.”
She will continue teaching until a replacement teacher can be found to fill her position. Mrs. Bonneau will retain her position as the English Department head for the remainder of the year.
“It wasn’t until they started doing interviews for my position that it really sank in,” Mrs. Bonneau said. “I will miss, very much, the classroom interaction part of teaching.”
