Football Team Remains Confident

Seven and one. Even with the loss to Ennis, the football team knows their season hasn’t ended and their playoff dreams haven’t either.

“Losing [to Ennis] made us more hungry, more fired up,” senior Everett Williams said. “We need to get the taste of loss out of our mouth.”

The football team had a record setting start to the season. Players put up great games where they faced top schools such as Lancaster and Red Oak. Starting 6-0 for the first time in history, Legacy faced a tough challenge in Ennis, who was undefeated as well. The game started off rocky with the Broncos losing a few starters to injuries. The team ended the game with a loss and a final score of 18-56.

“Good teams have bad days sometimes,” Everett Williams said, “I’d rather it be in the regular season than the playoffs.”

Coaches treated this game just as any other. Players studied film on what plays Ennis would run as well as practice their scheme on the field. Despite losing, senior Kijana Amous ran harder than ever, gaining 247 yards rushing.

“Everybody loses, it’s going to happen,” Amous said. “It’s our job now to bounce back and prove ourselves.”

Players and coaches prepare to face off against Seguin at R.L. Anderson stadium Oct. 25. Following the Seguin game, Legacy only has two more games to prepare for the playoffs, and a battle for the state championship. Head coach Chris Melson carries a blue sticker on his watch as motivation.

“[The blue sticker] won’t come off until we win that championship,” Melson said.

My name is Austin Escalante, I am now a senior at Legacy High school. I am 17 years old. I was born and raised in Arizona, and this is the first time I have ever lived outside Arizona. I went to Verrado High School and was planing on never leaving Arizona unless I got my dream job. I've known all my friends for at least 3 years, some even more. My dad took a job here, and I was forced to move, leaving my girlfriend and other friends, and I had to quit my job. It seemed like nothing could get worse. It was over 1,000-mile drive that took us two days, 12 hours the first day and nine hours the second one. [email protected]
