Senior class sponsor Stephanie Gresham clears up some confusion about prom.

The Rider Online chatted with senior class sponsor Stephanie Gresham to clear up some rumors and get the facts regarding food, prices, the venue and more on this year’s prom.

Why was the venue changed from the Omni to Embassy Suites?
I didn’t pick that. That was the venue when I walked in in August. Why they moved it I truly don’t know. My guess would be cost.

What fundraisers have been done to help with ticket prices?
The teachers will be paying money to be able to wear jeans during LUCK Week. That money will go to the senior account. Buffalo Wild Wings has been awesome, and we have a spirit night booked for the 29th and maybe another night with them right when baseball opens. Other spirit nights include a car wash. There will also be a concession bar at the senior movie night.

Could we pretty please eat dinner there?

That was already decided last year before I even became prom sponsor. Last year they decided sit down dinner wasn’t worth the cost. Most students go out to eat before prom anyways.

What will each ticket cost?
Prom ticket prices have not been set nor have I said anything about it. I don’t know where anybody got $100. As of tonight the maximum ticket of a price could be $80. My goal is to make the ticket prices as low as possible. The final price may be posted before spring break.

Can we make the meal optional? So if you want to pay more for a ticket + a meal you can, but you don’t have to?

Unfortunately, no. It’s a package that we price based on a certain number of people.

Could we have more fundraisers like paying a $1 during all lunches to play songs and/or a car wash?

The car wash idea we are already working on. I think the song idea is a really good idea, and I will look into it.

What is the plan for food at prom?
An appetizer buffet. It should be pretty nice: Sundae bar, fruit and chocolate. The event planner talked about a popcorn and candy buffet as well. A variety of food will be available but just small appetizers.

Are nominations during English classes? Some seniors have TCC. Maybe do nominations during lunch?

Probably both, but the TCC kids will not be forgotten. The senior officers remind me all the time not to forget the TCC kids.

Will there really be pizza at prom?
There is an option that one of the appetizer options could be mini pizzas. We aren’t serving ordered pizza like Domino’s for prom. We also have the option for chicken tenders as well as vegetarian options.

Can you come to senior classes to communicate with us more? Things don’t always get around to everyone.

I will try. Unfortunately, I have classes too. That’s why we set up the Twitter account. Although people don’t really know me, you are more than welcome to email me.

What would you like for students and parents to know about prom that they may not be aware of?
We are still in the planning stages, not everything has been finalized. If people have questions I wish they would stop by my class so I can clear up some confusion.

Can we change the prom venue to something nicer?

The prom venue is already paid for at the end of every year. That class pays for next year. It was already reserved May of last year. It’s actually a really nice place. It’s all open if you walk into the atrium, it’s like seven or eight stories all the way to the top. The reality of it is, we are going to make it awesome on the inside. Everybody will enjoy it.

When are nominations happening?

Nominations will happen in April – maybe the first week.

So if there is no dinner, what is the $80 paying for. Why is everyone just finding out about this whole plan? You are asking the students to participate in fundraisers to get the price of the tickets down. What are your expenses? What are you buying with this ticket money besides decorations and drinks I suppose? How much is being spent on this empty atrium room?

As a parent these are questions I have.
Where was the prom held last year?
What is the budget for the 2016 prom? And the break down of costs?
Would you let me know what happened to the communication on this event? Why emails were not sent out so we could assist you and prom committee with raising money and meeting goals?

    Thank you for your responses
