Detrion Taylor found his new job at Legacy High School and he is ready to have a successful track season. He plans to keep winning culture at Legacy. Coach Taylor wants to develop kids into better athletes and people.
Coach Taylor becagan his coaching career at Little Elm Middle School.
“I started volunteering at the middle school level and it grew from there,” Taylor said. “Legacy has always been about competing and succeeding at high levels. This attracted me to the campus.”
Taylor had to make adjustments as a coach and adjust to the bell schedule and practice times. It is the biggest change for him because it is a different environment and intensity in middle school compared to high school.
“A basic understanding of campus procedures was a big adjustment for me,” Coach Taylor said.
Taylor loves competing and winning because that’s the purpose of track and Legacy’s reputation for doing so made it an easy decision.
“Legacy has always been about competing and succeeding at high levels. This attracted me to the campus,” Coach Taylor said.
Every coach has different styles and different things they like about being a coach. Taylor loves helping runners become better people on and off the track.
“Being able to mentor kids and seeing them develop as athletes and as people is my favorite part about being a coach,” Coach Taylor said.
