After finishing 5th out of 56 schools at the Waxahachie competition on Feb. 22, the Silver Spurs followed by getting 1st out of 12 different schools at the North Forney competition on March. 1. The Spurs believed they displayed consistency and hard work all throughout the entire competition season. The accolades the Spurs put together placed them in a spot to go to Nationals on March. 29 in Galveston, Texas.
“I’m so proud of this team,” Director and Coach Alexandria Thomas said. “My goals set for the team were big, but I had no doubt in my mind that they could achieve this, and these kids are hungry, they want it, and love each other, and love the craft.”
Going into Coach Thomas’ first competition season as head director of the Spurs, questions about success throughout the season arose. Throughout unknown expectations and outcomes, Coach Thomas and the Spurs worked towards post-season success.
“Being at Legacy with the Silver Spurs feels so normal and right to me,” Coach Thomas said. “The relationships quickly grew and we were able to accomplish together what our goal was for this season, along with having a front row seat to all of it.”
Sophomore Katelyn Coffman believes the opportunity given to the team will boost morale and confidence throughout the team, making the dancers perform at their very best for not only themselves but for the team.
“This is going to be the best experience for the team,” Coffman said. “With all the hard work put in all season long to get this chance, I know this team is going to do great for each other,”.
According to the athletes, junior Molly Aldridge, JV officer, showed consistency and dedication toward the goal of making nationals by performing at her highest ability throughout JV dances, duets and varsity dances. Her contributions played a significant role in leading the team to Galveston.
“We have been working since before Christmas to make sure we could be the best that we could be, we never took a day off,” Aldridge said. “We support one another through our tough days to stay resilient and locked in.”
Despite mental and physical struggles and boundaries placed upon Aldridge and the other dancers, it didn’t stop them from working hard and preparing week after week for each competition. According to the athletes, this mindset that came through Coach Thomas’ instruction and direction carries towards the post-season and ultimately gives them their best shot for success.

“Coach Thomas has that X-factor. She is creative and strategic, and it was her guidance that led us to this point,” Aldridge said. “She never lets us give up on ourselves, she can be tough, but it’s that toughness that pushes us to be better.”
Preparing for Nationals, Coach Thomas issues team practices for two hours a day, making sure the team avoids any slip ups when the time comes for the team to perform.
“We’re still rehearsing our competition routine and cleaning our choreography,” Coach Thomas said. “Having a spring break between now and Nationals does make me nervous, but I know my kids are resilient and will work hard to be as ready as possible when the time comes.”
