Freshman Audrey Burkett gets her gear ready as she heads out on the court. She is the only freshman girl on the varsity tennis team. She is nervous, excited and ready to play.
After hours of practice Audrey plays her first tennis game as number eight on the varsity team.
“I am still so intimidated it is very nerve wracking being with all the older kids,” Burkett said.
Audrey fell in love with tennis when she started taking lessons at the country club three years ago.
“My mom played tennis, so that made me want to go play,” Burkett said.
Audrey sometimes has a bad day which leads to a bad game.
“Usually what keeps me going is the thought of winning. If I lose a point I have to forget about it and move on to the next one,” Burkett said.
Audrey loves Legacy. Her mom is Mrs. Burkett; the Algebra I teacher.
“I don’t really like when my mom talks about me to her class and then people come up to me and tell me. But I do like storing my stuff in her room,” Burkett said.
When Audrey has free time even though she usually does not, she likes to watch T.V. and is very involved in her church she goes multiple times a week.
“Church is what keeps my faith going and that faith in god is what will help me in life and get me into heaven,” Burkett said.
Audrey’s faith helps her keep her head free of stress when she is playing a match.
“When I am playing I pray and hope that I am going to win. I also pray that I will not get injured,” Burkett said.
