Syncing her iPod to everything Beatles, Kate Gustafson prepares to manage the JV volleyball team.

Junior Kate Gustafson is the JV Volleyball Manager, as well as an oldies music fan.

“I loved music ever since I was little,” Gustafson said, “It’s my life.”

When she was a child, her parents inadvertently exposed her to music that would influence her taste in it forever.

“My parents always listened to the oldie stations,” Gustafson said. “I didn’t really have a choice.”

Regardless of introducing her to music, her relatives aren’t as involved in it as she may be.

“They’re into music to a certain extent,” she said. “I’m more of the musical one in my family, though.”

Of all the oldie artists in her playlist, one shines through and by far has the highest play count.

“The Beatles are my favorite band, hands down,” she said. “Because they changed the way normal people thought and helped bring out a revolution. In the 60s, there was nothing like the Beatles. They were themselves.”

Therese Mendez, a childhood friend and fellow Beatles fan, knows exactly the extent of Kate’s enthusiasm for the group.

“Kate has always had a very spontaneous personality. I have had her in many classes over the years and I always love to hear her talk about The Beatles,” Mendez said. “She knows so much about them and I like to talk about their songs with her.”

Aside from drooling over John Lennon, Kate Gustafson got involved with volleyball becoming JV manager.

“You see, I tried out for volleyball sophomore year,” Gustafson said. “And I didn’t make it, but I still wanted to be involved. So I applied for manager.”
