I love movies. I’m sure a lot of you know this. One of my favorite activities is watching movies with friends. Particularly bad movies, because then we get to make fun of them. We’ve all done this; picked apart every little absurdity or shortcoming in a really bad movie, simply to keep everyone in the room laughing. This is why it delights me to announce a new project that I and my good friends Hunter Canedy and Trevor Callerman are undertaking alongside Student Council.
On Nov. 19, StuCo will be screening the movie Twilight in the cafeteria at 6:00.
Afterwards, roughly two hours later, Trevor Hunter and I will be screening another movie for you guys to watch, but all the while the three of us will be armed with microphones and providing a (hopefully) funny commentary throughout the entire movie. We’ll be watching it with you guys, making fun of it all the while. We might even stop in the middle of the movie and perform a couple of skits in front of the audience, who knows?
We’re all very excited about this. The idea first arose after Trevor and Hunter took a trip to Austin and visited the Master Pancake Theater, a similar operation where two comedians make fun of bad movies in front of an audience. They approached me about putting on a similar show for the good kids at Legacy and, being a lifelong Mystery Science Theater 3000 fan, I said yes.
Now, I’m sure you guys have got a couple of questions; what movie will be screening? What is this little shindig going to be called? Well, the answer to second question is simple; we don’t know yet. We have a couple of name ideas but we haven’t settled on one at the moment. And as for the choice in movies, we’re going to leave that up to you. In a few days, we’re going to run a poll on The Rider Online so that you guys can vote on the movie you want us to make fun of. This is going to be a lot of fun and I’ll give out more details as they arrive. See you on Nov. 19.
UPDATE
The show has been moved to sometime in December so as not to conflict with other school activities. Watch therideronline.com for more info.
