Key Club will help families bring Christmas to their children through their Adopt-a-Child program. The club volunteered to find presents after parents signed their child up, including their first name, clothing size and interests or hobbies.
AP US History teacher Mrs. Gent offered to purchase gifts for a four-year-old boy. Her class gathered funds and bought him clothes, toys and a bike. The class will turn in the presents to the student council store.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for the kids to provide Christmas for the others who aren’t as fortunate,” Mrs. Gent said.
Parents in financial distress apply to the Common Ground Network Method, a charitable church program, to have their children put on a list, which people choose from to purchase presents. Key Club sponsor Mrs. Burkett organized the entire school event, from getting teachers involved to distributing the gifts.
“I think it’s good for people to realize that other families aren’t as fortunate as we are,” Mrs. Burkett said.
