The people witnessing the match rose to their feet as the potential final point of the match was about to be played. The point began with Granbury serving a serve out-wide. Elena Chudoba, 10, swiped the ball with a forehand and hit it down the line, making the opposing girl miss and earning them the point. For the first time ever, they were District Champions.
The girls have advanced to the Regional Tournament which will be played in San Angelo on April 19-20.
“I’m not nervous because we are going to have a good time, while hopefully playing good enough to advance to the next level [state],” Henry said.
The girls will be facing the region’s best doubles teams from West Texas in two weeks.
“I expect the competition to be tough because we have made it this far,” Chudoba said.
The girls also are not just teammates, but really good friends as well.
“I like to play with Elena because she is awesome,” Henry said. “We have a good time, and we roast our opponents.”
The girls plan on practicing harder the week before they head off to San Angelo to make sure that they’re ready for regionals.
“We are going to work on the thing’s we did wrong in the District tournament, and hopefully with that we will make it far in regional’s,” Henry said.
