Teachers at at Ben Barber Career and Technology Academy have begun active enforcement of the standard rules in the Student Code of Conduct with the arrival of a new principal, Christie Alfred. At the beginning of the new semester teachers reminded students of what they had already agreed to at the beginning of the year by reviewing the Code of Conduct from the Student Handbook.
All teachers have been instructed to send students with out an ID to the office for a temporary ID if they fail to wear theirs.
“It’s really for their own safety,” Mrs. Alfred said. “With so many different schools we need to be sure of who they are and where they’re supposed to be.”
The cell phone policy now differs slightly from other MISD schools, allowing students to have their phones in the commons area, but not in the classrooms.
“The students are really trying hard to keep the rules,” Mrs. Alfred said. “They’ve been a great help and have made the whole process easier.”
