Art Students to Hold Gallery Viewing May 5

On May 5, senior advanced art students will hold an art show at the Hue Gallery in downtown Mansfield. The exhibit will last from 7-10 p.m.

“I like it because all the other art shows are contests and the students’ work is mixed with other schools, but this one gives seniors an opportunity to shine,” art teacher David Mason said.

The show will consist of mediums ranging from sculpture to photography and digital art. Those choosing to participate filled out a form allowing students to submit up to five pieces, the form guarantees at least one piece will make it in. The pieces could be from any year of art, but are mainly works done this year.

To get into the Hue Gallery visitors must walk through Nuance Dental, located next to the gallery, and speak to the receptionist to open the connecting door.

This will be the second year for the students to have their own show and Mr. Mason expects teachers, family members and students from other schools to attend.

“What’s really cool is as much as art is a competition, they have a lot of friends from other schools who are really supportive,” Mr. Mason said.

No awards are given at the the show, which Mr. Mason explained was an experience, not a competition.

“It’s to kind of give them an idea of how it is to have their own show, or a group show in an actual gallery to showcase their projects,” Mr. Mason said.
