Deteriorated wax seals on toilets in the restrooms caused the pipes to emit foul odors and fumes. Five wax seals were replaced this week, most located on the first floor K-hall near the cafeteria. Because of the high student traffic in this hallway, the bathrooms receive an excessive amount of use throughout the school day, wearing the seals at a quicker rate.
“When you’re in your house, you’re not going to need to change seals more than once every 20 years,” Assistant Principal John Contreras said, “but with 2000 kids, it’s more normal to see it wear out.”
