L.U.C.K Week (Legacy United through Caring and Kindness) is a week dedicated to raising money for a child with an illness. The goal: to raise $8000 for medical bills or anything else the family nominated might need. Applications will be accepted from Jan. 13 to Jan. 27. The candidate will be announced on Friday, January 31. L.U.C.K Week for 2014 will proceed during the week of April 7-11.
“As a council, we read every single one of the stories and the council votes on it,” Schimming said. “It’s all student driven.”
Kyra Olson, last year’s candidate, passed away before L.U.C.K. week, but was still honored during the week. The school raised $7,602 for the Olson family and sent them on a Disney Cruise with extra money to help them pay off expenses.
“When people bond together over a common cause, it really brings the campus together,” Schimming said. “When we’re helping someone in need, especially somebody that really pulls on your heartstrings, people tend to get closer through that.”
