National Honor Society will take their annual field trip on April 22. This year, club members will get the day off from school to visit the Fort Worth Zoo.
“The zoo is fun and a lot of times high school age kids don’t go,” NHS sponsor Ms. Michelle Hurst said. “You go when you’re little and you kind of forget about it, but it should be a beautiful day and the Fort Worth Zoo’s really nice, so it will be as fun as they make it.”
AP Biology and AP Environmental Science students will join NHS at the zoo. The trip provides an opportunity for students to expand on what they’ve learned about ecology and animal diversity.
“If we picked somewhere like the zoo or the aquarium then we could take the classes,” Hurst said. “It has to be something academic or they won’t let us take a field trip.”
In the past, NHS has taken trips to places such as the Dallas World Aquarium and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. This will be the first trip for several members, including junior Jessica Bao.
“I’m going to love to see all the animals,” Bao said. “I’m excited to spend time with my friends.”
