Mansfield ISD will host the Mansfield Book Festival tomorrow. Festivities will begin at 9 a.m. at the MISD Performing Art Center and plan to run until 4 p.m.
“It will give the students a chance to make personal connections to the books,” librarian Ms. Pinkerton said. “Books are always more enjoyable to read for pleasure when the reader has a connection to the author.”
Authors, illustrators, storytellers and poets from around the country will attend this weekend. They will sign as well as present sessions about their books. Authors attending include Renee Ahdieh, Jay Asher, Janet Stevens and many more aim toward varying audiences, so there will be something there for all ages to enjoy.
“I would love for students to take advantage of this opportunity in hopes that they would develop a love for pleasure reading,“ Ms. Pinkerton said. “I feel that actually meeting the authors and having an autograph copy of a book would hopefully spark an interest for a student to read for pleasure.”
Author signings will take place throughout the day, and books will be available for purchase. Authors will also teach a writing workshop and host a mic poetry slam.
