Because MISD switched to the A/B Day schedule, certain policies regarding tardies and absences have been changed.
Students will now only be granted four tardies per class for the first semester and five for the second, whereas students were once granted an even nine per class each semester.
“We expect this rule to be pretty easy to follow this year since the students only have four destinations a day,” Leonard Cousins, Assistant Principal, said.
If a student were to be more than five minutes late to class, they can expect to be sent to see an assistant principal directly as opposed to getting a tardy pass, and may possibly be sentenced to Saturday school. Moreover, a student who were to be more than five minutes late to class twice in one day could possibly receive in-school suspension.
The renewed absence policy works similar to the tardy policy; four absences will be granted for the first semester and five for the second before the student begins to absence fail and the hours would need to be made up in Saturday school or tutoring.
