After a 10-1 district start this season, Legacy softball has been on their longest winning streak yet. By beating Waxahachie in their last game 6-1, it marks their ninth district win in a row.
“The season is going really good right now,” sophomore pitcher Jaycee Cook said. “We started off slow because we had a few players coming back from injuries and being hurt, but it seems like we have hit our stride in district. We are getting better each week.”
Hard work in practice has been paying off for the team so far, and they are looking to continue their success throughout district. Their selflessness, according to Cook, has played a big factor also in how the team goes about their business.
“My goal for the rest of the season is to do whatever my team needs me to do to get through playoffs and to state,” Cook said. “I don’t look at my individual stats or anything like that during the year because my focus is on my team and what I need to contribute so we can be our best.”
Despite the various injuries like sprains, broken bones or concussions. Coach Prater believes the team’s ability to overcome adversity will get them far. In the latter part of the season, the girls have found their groove and learned how to play for each other. Playoffs start April 25, and Coach Prater knows the team is closing in on a spot that is guaranteed.
“The playoffs aren’t set yet, but I’m confident we will find ourselves in the hunt for a strong playoff run,” Coach Prater said. “At [that] point it doesn’t matter what number you come out, it just matters that you’re in and anything can happen then.”
